MOTION TO AMEND THE 2026 FEDERAL LEGISLATIVE PROGRAM
Member Schwarze commented on the federal budget cuts and food insecurity, stressing the
importance of school lunch programs. Government Affairs Coordinator Kate Kissane provided
an update on where the federal funding stands now. Consensus was given by the committee
members to add support for school lunch programs to the 2026 Federal Legislative Program.
Member Ozog mentioned some programs in other states that cover all breakfasts and all lunches
for students, and inquired about where Illinois stands with programs like that. Government
Affairs Coordinators Sheryl Markay and Kate Kissane recommended that instead of adding a
new category to the program, that this support for school lunch funding initiatives could be
added under a section that already exists.
Member Ozog moved and Member Schwarze seconded a motion to add language that supports
funding for school lunches in Illinois to the 2026 Federal Legislative Program.
