ADMINISTRATIVE UPDATE
Laura started by thanking DuPage Animal Friends, event co-chairs Krajewski and DeSart, and
everyone who attended and supported the Raise the Woof gala. The event raised more than
$269,000 in gross revenue. Raise the Woof proved to be a very successful kickoff to the capital
campaign.
Laura met with donors this past weekend to tour the construction site. Donors are very excited
about the project.
DuPage Animal Friends also had a very successful Giving DuPage Days, raising more than
$35,000 and ending the three day campaign among the top three fundraising organizations.
149 animals are in the care of Animal Services currently. Kittens are starting to trickle in. This is
the time of year that animal populations tend to rise. Approximately 50 percent owner
surrender/50 percent stray. Return to owner rates are currently around 33%.
We are experiencing longer lengths of stays for some animals, especially rabbits. Adoptions have
slowed across the board.
The Specialty Veterinary Vehicle season is underway with Dr. Turner performing surgeries
off-site at Feral Fixers facility which has been working well.
Laura informed the committee that completion of the newly renovated shelter office areas has
been pushed back to October of this year.
Laura provided an update on upcoming community outreach activities:
· DCAS is partnering with Hinsdale Humane Society to host free vaccine and microchip
clinics this summer. There are 7 dates now through October focusing on communities
where there is the greatest need.
· Library Series - DCAS is hosting 17 dates at public libraries around the county to offer
humane education programming for children, teens and adults. Topics include living with
wildlife, pet care best practices, safe interactions with animals in the community.
9.
OLD BUSINESS
No old business was discussed.
10.
NEW BUSINESS
HSUS is about to release their latest humane legislator scorecard. Chairman Krajewski would
like to get this scorecard information out to DuPage County constituents to make them aware of
how legislators in their districts are voting on animal bills.
With the expanded shelter, Laura is researching low cost veterinary clinic models and looking
into veterinarian support to assist DCAS with making low-cost veterinary services available for
DuPage County residents in the future.
Volunteer opportunities will be re-opened and expanded once construction is completed and staff
are moved into the new facility.
11.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
